Program Description

Event Details

The Soviet Union was established in 1922 and dissolved in 1991. During that time, two parallel art movements were unfolding in Soviet Russia. The conformist social realism art movement celebrated the regime, while the underground art movement was outside the control of the Soviet state. Artists in the underground movement risked their lives and careers to create these works, and they are highly valued in the West today.
