What is fair housing, and what does it mean for the community? Join advocacy group Open Communities to learn principle rights and responsibilities that both renters and housing providers need to know.

Open Communities' Fair Housing 101 presentation covers the principle fair housing rights and responsibilities that both renters and housing providers need to know. This introduction covers the broad protections in the federal Fair Housing Act, gives an overview of local protections in Illinois as well as in Cook County, and helps community members understand how to recognize violations and take action. Additional topics include reasonable accommodations for tenants, sources of income protections, and rights of those with prior justice involvement when applying for housing.

The mission of Open Communities is to ensure that housing in north suburban Chicago is fair and inclusive. They do this by educating, advocating, and organizing to eradicate housing discrimination, in all of its forms and against all persons, due to race, color, national origin, religion, gender, gender identity, sex, sexual orientation, disability, familial status, or source of income.
